15 Blog Post Ideas for Travel Bloggers

Written by: Amanda // Category: Travel Blogging

Hey fellow travel/expat bloggers! Today I'm here to share a little inspiration to help get you out of a serious case of writer's block. Trust me, you're not the only blogger to fall into the 'I don't know what to write about' rut. It happens to every single one of us and it sucks! First of all, I highly recommend not writing anything if you don't have anything to say instead of forcing yourself to write a 'meh' post just to get your weekly credential in. However, sometimes we really want to write, we just have no friggin' clue what to write about. A friend of mine just asked me the other day how I figure out topics for my blog, and 9 times out of 10 it's you, my readers, who inspire me. I read every single comment and TRY to answer every ... 5 Reasons New Zealand Should Be On Your Bucket List

Written by: Amanda // Category: New Zealand

I am 100% completely in love with New Zealand. Although we aren't sure what the future has in store for us (whether we leave when our working-holiday visas are up or stay under new visas), this country has a special place in my heart and carries some of the fondest memories. I feel like I have so much I would love to share with you about New Zealand (including a TON of destinations I have yet to blog about), but for now I want to wrap it up in a pretty package and tie a big bow on top of all of it, just to get you over here to experience this country. New Zealand should be on the top of your bucket list, whether you plan on visit for a short time or stay long-term. 5 reasons why you should visit New Zealand: 1. Adventure central I ... Read More

Finding a Place to Live in New Zealand

Written by: Amanda // Category: Expat Living, New Zealand

So you've been approved for a visa, and you're headed over to New Zealand (aka paradise on Earth)! We've already talked about finding work, so the next logical step would be finding a [temporary] home! As much as I would love to tell you the opposite, hobbit holes are not readily available to rent in New Zealand. A girl can dream though right? Looking for a place to live outside Hobbiton (am I taking this Middle Earth narrative too far?) can be quite daunting , especially when you don't know the lay of the land or have no idea about how things are properly orchestrated over here when it comes to housing. Looking back at our 'housing journey' I would have loved finding material to read before we began the task of house-hunting. I will ... Read More

A Weekend Getaway at Kinross Cottages

Written by: Amanda // Category: Accommodation, New Zealand, Review

In the 5 years we have been together, Derik and I have never made elaborate plans to celebrate Valentine's Day. However, this year I wanted to do something special 'just because,' and planned a weekend getaway in Queenstown. I booked our stay at Kinross Cottages last minute, and really had no idea what to expect, except that the place was new-ish and in Gibbston Valley (wine country). The Kinross Cottages Review The second we pulled into the Kinross drive Derik and I were completely blown away. We had somehow completely missed the part of the website description that stated our cottage would literally be smack dab in the middle of a vineyard, and that paired with the gorgeously designed 'General Store' and cottages, we felt like giddy ... Beachcomber Island, Fiji

Written by: Amanda // Category: Cruises, Fiji

Fiji has always been top of my South Pacific bucket list. I don't know about you, but I grew up thinking Fiji was basically tropical paradise, and you've really 'made it' if you get the chance to visit. Although the second part of that sentence isn't exactly true, I was super stoked when Fiji appeared twice on our cruise itinerary back in December. WHOOP!!! Port Denarau, Fiji was actually the second stop on our trip, but it was the one I was most excited for. We decided not to book a shore excursion (hey people, we aren't made of money over here), and opted for the 'let's risk it and see what the port has to offer us' approach. Let me just say, out of all the ports-of-call we went to, we probably regretted this decision the most. You ... Read More

How to Grow Your Travel Blog

Written by: Amanda // Category: Travel Blogging

As a new travel blogger, you can often feel like you're a tiny anthill sitting amongst a bunch of mountains, unseen and barely noticed.  It might seem to you that there is absolutely no hope when it comes to growing your travel blog or gaining interest from readers, companies, and other blogs. You shouldn't fret though, we've all been there. Every single blogger has started from the very bottom with zero readers and influence, and somehow has managed to work their way up to where they are today. Growing a blog takes dedication, commitment, research, and time.   Every once in a blue moon, a blog will pop out of nowhere and grow from 100 to 100,000 readers overnight and it leaves us wondering how the heck they did it. Going viral ... Read More

Instagram post 2191262001464883691_1586897 We spent Thanksgiving back in North America: Whistler, Canada! A 10 hour flight from Germany , and I can’t say this one was better than the one we took over the summer on our trip to Alaska, but we survived! Entertaining a 11 month old for that long is much harder than a 6 month old, especially when they aren’t into sleeping on the plane AT ALL. 🤪

Whistler was beautiful despite the lack of snow, and we enjoyed our time with family, the delicious food, and as much sightseeing as one could do with a jet-lagged baby.
This was actually my first trip to Canada ever, (unless you want to count the move my parents took up to Alaska from Arkansas when I was two. 😂🤷‍♀️ ) and I loved it! We would really like to take a big Canadian road trip someday and explore more of the country! 😍😍🇨🇦
Instagram post 2162391766049924598_1586897 Being a mama may mean I don’t always have time to put myself together, but I would rather spend the extra moments making special memories with our daughter that she can cherish forever. I doubt that she will look at this picture and see a tired, messy haired mama that’s barely had time to wash her face nevermind carefully apply makeup, but am hoping she will see a mama that never tires of carrying and cuddling her, or sharing new experiences with her. 💕
Instagram post 2161269753608488280_1586897 Oh Switzerland, you beaut.🇨🇭 We spent a couple days enjoying the beautiful weather in the land of chocolate, cheese, mountains, and cows with bells 😍😍🤩. If you remember, we visited the same area a month shy of two years ago but but the weather was quite the opposite! I’d have to say though, when you visit such a majestic and beautiful area, it doesn’t matter what the weather is, you’re going to be in awe and love it anyway!
Instagram post 2137973445900634297_1586897 We’re mid-fall festival season here in Germany! Bring on the wine, music, and all the delicious food🤩🤩.
Instagram post 2111707320150069901_1586897 3,285 days of adventure, love, and learning — that’s 9 years I’ve been able to call Derik my husband, and I can truly say it’s only felt like a few years NOT just one year shy of a whole decade. This year has brought so much change with welcoming our daughter into our lives, and through it has only solidified our marriage and how much I am so deeply in love with this man. He’s the best father (as I always knew he would be) and an incredible husband. I am beyond blessed.
Happy Anniversary and BIRTHDAY my love!
We need to get more photos of us together, but since having our little one, most of the photos we’ve taken have been just with her! These were taken on our 'babymoon' in Iceland! As I was going through them, I realized I have a ton to share of our trip, so hopefully that’ll come soon!
Instagram post 2104702897498505367_1586897 Summer in Germany. 🌻

This is the fourth one I’ve been through and they’ve all been a bit different: sometimes rainy, sometimes ridiculously hot, sometimes full of bugs, but always beautiful. Flowers, berries, festivals and wine walks in abundance.

The key to successfully living in a new country is to STOP COMPARING and enjoy it for what it is - entirely different than your native country. Embrace the struggle, the experiences, the adventures, the pain, and the beauty or else you’ll tragically lose out what could be one of the most magical times in your life.
Instagram post 2078684799322929913_1586897 Our little girl has officially become a world traveler as of a couple weeks ago! The @condorairlines flight from Germany to Alaska was long, and she only slept 40 minutes out of the 9:10hour trip, but we survived and she still did remarkably well even with being overly-tired. My hope is our trip back to Germany runs a bit smoother and that she sleeps so mama can sleep too. 😂😬🙏 Prayers welcomed. Between that and the 10 hour time difference, schedules (eating/sleeping) have been thrown way off and I don’t expect them to level out for a few more weeks 😩.
