What goes down in the books as the most monumental Christmas present ever?
The title would go to my husband, and that would be giving me a 5D Mark ii, complete with a 50mm (f 1.4) lens AND a 28-105mm lens. I’ve been drooling over this camera ever since my love affair with photography began in 2008. I’m definitely not claiming im a good photographer or skilled in any way, but I love it. It’s my hobby. It’s a challenge that always presents itself in new, refreshing ways.
I hit the limit of what I could do with my trusty Canon Rebel (xsi) that I bought in 2009 and used for my first college photography class. That camera and I had seen a lot of things, traveled many countries, and definitely logged our time taking pictures. I hit the limit of what I could do with the camera this last year, and had been craving something more. A lower f-stop (more of a lens thing). A higher ISO. Basically more manual controls.
Derik and I decided not to do Christmas this year, and our Christmas present to each other would be the trip to Vietnam. That of course, as every year occurs, is a lie. I always get him something, he always gets me something. This year Derik held it together pretty good though, and fooled me all the way up until we arrived back in South Korea from our vacation.
As we were leaving the airport bound for the icy island of Geoje, we made a pit stop at the biggest electronics district in Korea-Yongsan Electronics Market. This is where we spent the next hour and a half haggling, finding the best prices, and getting the best packages. It was fun.
I left with my brand new camera and all the accessories!
I had a four hour bus ride back to Geoje from Seoul, and I spent the entire time reading the user manual.
Unfortunately I haven’t been able to give this baby a good test run, I’ve been working constantly since we’ve gotten back. I’m hoping to take it out by the end of this week.
Here are a few pictures I took the day we got back. And yes. My Christmas tree is still up in my house. Do not judge.
Jazz isn’t sure what to think…
Derik will probably kill me for posting this picture. Jazz loves Derik.
