I know it’s been a while since I’ve updated you all on where we are/what we are doing, but if you follow along on Instagram, you know by now that we’ve been up in Alaska since October. We have loved every second of being up here, and will miss it like crazy when we leave. I am so behind with amazing pictures and stories to share with you (hello 3-month European adventure), that I haven’t even thought twice about posting on Alaska … until now!
The weather has been a real gem lately, and I just received some gorgeous leggings from Pins to Kill, so in true Alaskan form, I took my butt outside (in the leggings of course), and went on a bit of an adventure with my sister and friend the other day. I insulated my leggings with a pair of tights just in case it was super cold up at Hatcher Pass, but to my surprise (even with the crazy amount of snow) it felt like it was about 75 degrees up there. See, there’s this neat thing that happens when the sun is fully out and the snow is completely covering the ground: all those UV rays reflect right off the snow and right back up into the sky, hence the feeling of warmth. We initially wore our full winter jackets, but those were shed in about 10 minutes as we felt like baked potatoes inside of them. Also, note to self: bring sunscreen and sunglasses next time you decide to hike in snow on a sunny day.
Hatcher Pass is an absolute stunning location! In the winter, locals hit up the pristine slopes for some free snowboarding, skiing, sledding (which I’ve tested btw…and it’s amazing), and all around good fun. If you’re visiting Anchorage or surrounding areas, I highly recommend heading up to Hatcher Pass for at least a few hours. The drive itself is worth it!
On a crazy note, did you notice the photo above where I was holding my phone? During our little adventure in the snow, I somehow dropped my phone. I thought it was a goner seeing as how we were tromping through 10 feet of snow, but somehow we were able to miraculously recover it from an icy death by sending a few texts and calls to it. Thank goodness it wasn’t in silent mode or we would have never found it.
Now a bit about those awesome leggings of mine: I am super happy with the quality, wear and style: They worked quite well for me during our visit to Hatcher Pass! Pins to Kill lets you design your own leggings using photographs, graphic patterns, and more, so really, the sky is the limit as to what you can do with them. You should check out P2K’s Instagram page to see what everyone else is doing with their sweet custom leggings, and learn more about the company!
I was given a pair of leggings in exchange for an open and honest review. All opinions are my own. If you want to know more about Pins to Kill, visit their website here.
