So it’s Friday in Korea. Fridays are always a celebration to me and Derik…we both only work 3-5 hours on this day! He’s out riding around on his motorcycle, so I decided to whip up a quick Friday Funnies post for you all. I’ve been thinking about this one for quite some time, and I’m so glad to day’s the day I get to share some sweet stuff with you!
Is it just me, or do commercials in other countries always seem funnier than the US? Could it be due to the language barrier? I’m not sure…but 90% of all Korean commercials leave me shaking my head. I’ve decided to share some classic examples with you today…enjoy the Youtube love. I’m giving you my top 7 (that I have found on Youtube anyway) starting from the bottom and working towards my ultimate favorites!
7A. Mcdonalds. This is a classic example how the culture openly makes fun of people. It’s a cultural norm!
7B. Mcdonalds. I thought I’d throw another Mcd’s commercial in there for good measure. Since we all know it’s overtaking the world anyway. Remember the Harlem Shake? Yeah it’s still haunting my dreams too. I never got into it, never will. Apparently the advertising world in Korea thought it’d be a great idea to make their own version. And now I will never buy another pack of chicken nuggets. Dang you Harlem Shake. Be gone already.
6. Soju Charm. We all know that drinking alcohol can lead to bad decisions…but soju takes the cake. This unfiltered, less than a dollar, terrible choice in drink is Korean’s alcohol staple. I can’t even tell you how many men and women (mostly men) I’ve seen passed out drunk along the street, due to their overactive drinking habits. Yet they get up and work the next day. Craziness!
5. Cass Beer. Speaking of alcohol, we all know PSY is the biggest phenomenon in Korea since soju was invented. He’s an advocate for Cass beer (which is pretty much the worst beer I’ve ever tasted), and has starred in some pretty strange commercials. Take a look-sie at this one.
4.Sudden Attack 2. I can’t say much about this one or I’ll ruin the commercial. All I can say is that honestly I don’t feel like this one flows together very well.
3.Baskin Robbins. I watched this one on TV the other day and it left me scratching my head in confusion. Seriously…this is a CLASSIC example of typical Korean commercials.
2. LTE WARP. We all know and love Star Wars, and the obsession with Darth Vader died a long time ago in the US. Apparently the black cloak and creepy breathing has just started to make waves here in K-town. This commercial was shot last year.
1. Lotteria. I should first explain that Lotteria is a fast-food restaurant here in Korea and is as popular, if not more, than McDonalds. Tell me how LMFAO’s Shots directly relates to eating burgers and drinking soda?
