It’s been a long time since Derik and I have had a legit couples photo session. Actually, its been since our engagement/wedding over three years ago, and I knew it was high time to schedule another one. The only problem was finding a good photographer. I thought it would be really awesome to hire someone to take our pictures while we were on our big trip, so I started looking for a professional/freelance photographer in Hawaii.
You wouldn’t believe the amount of so-called ‘photographers’ in the Maui area. Most charged over $1,000 for something I could have easily done with a point and shoot. I took one last drastic measure to find the kind of photographer I was looking for by checking out Craigslist. Yes, you read right, Craigslist. I’m a huge fan of freelance photographers, mostly because I have at least 4 college friends that do amazing work, and they all started small and independently too.
It didn’t take me long to stumble upon Cadencia Photography. I immediately fell in love with her images (I mean really, go check out her blog. Each picture tells a story, and this girl lives a pretty epic life!), and I knew I just had to book her. Cadence is about as real as they come, and I enjoyed interacting with her over email, talking about what we wanted with our upcoming shoot, timing, and life in general. When I met her in person she was even more awesome: bubbly, fun, full of life, and had amazing creative ideas.
We took our photos in the small town of Paia, Maui which is absolutely charming. I would highly recommend using Cadencia Photography if you’re ever in Maui. She specializes in yoga/hoop dancing shoots, engagements/couples, maternity, family, and portraits.
