It’s not every day that I write about my designs. I like to keep my design business (The Suitcase Designs) separate from my blog, due to the fact that the topics of ‘travel’ and ‘blog design’ have nothing to do with each other. However, once in a blue moon I make an exception.
It’s also pretty rare that a blogger will give a designer free rein to do as they please for a design. When that happens, and all the cards fall in place just so (meaning the client is pretty much ridiculously awesome and not only listens to advice, but bounces amazing ideas back to you), magic happens.
Elicia from Life’s a Journee is this client. She sought me out a few weeks ago to do a wordpress.com-.org transfer and a design, and I can’t tell you how glad I am that she did! We’ve built an amazing relationship over the past few weeks, and I’m excited to say that one day I will be meeting her face to face!
Get this. She is also a teacher living in South Korea. She and her husband decided to sell everything and move over here for a couple of years (sound familiar?). She was looking for a new ‘professional’ looking design in which she could feel inspired day in and day out to write. We started talking to each other, and after a few design examples I was starting to get a feel of what she wanted. Color (or colour for you English folk). It took me a good solid day how to incorporate lots of color into a scheme without taking away from the posts, and decided to take things to a drawing board. Literally.
I never realized how easy it would be to draw designs, and ideas just started flowing.
Then this one happened.
I sent a completed design board over to Elicia, I got this reaction:
“Oh my gosh.It is absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!I screamed and then I jumped up and down and then I ran over and showed it to my husband. And then I screamed again.Oh my gosh. It is stunning and so, so, so, so perfect.I’m happy dancing right now.Sweet baby Jesus in a manger. You are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“I just keep looking at it. I love it. It’s so gorgeous!!!!!!It’s like when I first got my engagement ring. I could not stop staring. “
