“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.” – Anonymous
For the last four years or so this has been our pursuit; to experience life and the world as much as we can. We started our travels around the time we figured out we just weren’t ready to hold still, we wanted to explore and have some adventure. We both worked jobs that had long hours and little opportunity to travel far. So we decided to pack up, and head out to explore the world. Until now in this adventure, I have been a silent partner mostly. I’ve held jobs in the countries we have lived in and been blessed to have jobs that have allowed for Amanda and I to travel often. During this time Amanda has done a phenomenal job expanding her business and travel website. We are very excited that we can now both do this and have a chance to travel even more – at least for a little while. I personally am very excited to start writing some for LIAL. Amanda and I enjoy traveling so much together and love a lot of the same things about travel, and I’m excited to share some of these things from my perspective.
I am the foodie in the relationship. Food and experiencing traditional dishes around the world is one of the greatest attractions to travel for me. I love experiencing new cultures through food, learning how to make certain dishes, and discovering new flavors. Whether it’s babi guling (suckling pig) in Bali, Dak Bal (chicken feet) in South Korea, or delicious gnocchi in Italy, I want to try it. I’ll generally give anything a go at least once, unless it looks like snot, then it’s a no-go for me. You can expect some tips on foods to try in foreign countries, and some reviews of some pretty awesome restaurants from me.
When I’m not trying to add inches to my waistline there’s nothing I enjoy more on holiday than trying a few new activities. Surfing, skydiving, snorkeling, rafting, playing with tigers; if it can fit in the travel budget I want to try it.
There is so much to see in this world, too much to just sit still in one place. If I accomplish anything with my writing I hope to encourage others to get out and have some adventures. Most of all, what makes travel the most valuable to me is the gift to see the world from many different perspectives and to make connections with people from all over the place. It’s so valuable to get outside your comfort zone, rid yourself of stigmas, and even rid yourself of the fear of “the outside world”. The world is full of wonderful people and I think travel has a way of breaking down barriers, assumptions, opens us to seeing past culture, nationality, and so on. I love this part/result of travel.
So there you go. That’s a little about me. Amanda and I have a lot of fun traveling together and I am excited to share some of our favorite destinations and experiences with you.
I post (almost) daily on Instagram, so feel free to drop by!
