I’m not a huge cat fan. Until Saturday, I had no idea I was pretty darn allergic to them. However, I am a HUGE animal lover in general, and due to the fact that I was spending an adventurous weekend with a couple of girls in Busan, we decided to seek out a cat cafe.
Yes. Cat cafe.
I understand that there is absolutely no way a cat cafe could be sanitary with it’s open coffee bar and cats running around everywhere, but I have to remember this is Asia. I really did have a blast despite my red, itching eyes and swollen sinuses. The cats were more than happy, and could do whatever they pleased.
There were strict rules not to touch a sleeping cat, or even pick any of them up. Although I was a little disappointed about not being able to carry a ball of fluff around for a while, I understand the rules. These cats get played with for 12 hours a day. Could you imagine them getting carried around that long? They’d be some of the crankiest felines on the planet.
When we arrived at the cafe we had to take off our shoes first thing and don brightly colored foam slippers. We were also given hand sanitizer to clean the germs off our hands. It only cost 7,000 W (less than $7) for the entry fee and that included a coffee or tea drink of choice.
I have never seen so many cats in one place in my entire life. And there were so many different breeds! My favorite was a wire-haired homeless looking little sphinx. You see, both his parents were hairless…and he should have been as well. Because he wasn’t he was discarded as ‘not good.’ This cafe rescued him, and now have him happily running around begging for attention. He was the first one that came up to me and I quickly fell in love. Sure he’s pretty much the ugliest cat you’ve ever met, but something about this little one just pulls on my little heart strings! Do I even need to mention he’s wearing a little bumble bee t-shirt with wings?
There were quite a few cuties running around all over the place. Some of them love-y some of them grumpy. Which one is your favorite?
Would I go again? Yes. Sure, I may not be a huge cat lover, but how can you resist an experience like this? I’ve also heard that there are legendary dog cafes here in Korea as well. You’d better believe after my cat cafe experience I’ll be seeking one of those out next! And when I find one? I’ll be in heaven.
>>>>This cat cafe is located in Nampo, Busan right off the main shopping street. It is pretty close to Mcdonalds, so seek out the golden arches and you should find it!<<<<
